The School

Our school is situated in Mareil-Marly, in the west of Paris, right by the forest. Our school has a large garden with a playground, swimming pool and sports field for the children to enjoy!

At FIS, we cover classes from Nursery (age 2+) to the end of Primary (in UK: year 5, in USA: 5th grade). Our classes are multi-level, with one teacher and at least one assistant per class for young children. Our pupil:adult ratio is 6:1 in the early years.

Curriculum

At FIS we provide a rich and balanced curriculum which combines two recognised teaching programmes. This ensures that the diverse learning needs and expectations of all our pupils are being met.

The English National Curriculum (ENC) is an educational syllabus used in schools across the UK as well as in many international schools around the world. It aims that all children gain a good grounding in reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy. It also places a great emphasis on children’s personal development.

In addition, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is followed for all other academic subjects- science, history, geography, arts, and music. This curriculum has been developed as a cross-subject enrichment programme and it is delivered through thematic learning units. IPC puts the emphasis on a combination of academic, personal and international learning for children worldwide, combined with innovative and exciting ways to learn. It has been successfully integrated by many primary internationally-minded schools that are also following BNC for Maths and English.

All children have twice weekly sport lessons with specialist teachers. In the Autumn and Summer terms, they also have regular swimming lessons with a qualified instructor. We incorporate the forest environment in our learning approach, using the outdoors as much as possible. Children are not only getting fresh air, but experience firsthand how learning can take place seamlessly through fun activities. For more information please read FIS brochure below.

At the end of each school year we also provide a yearbook with pictures of everything that has taken place at school during the year. In the book you will find pictures of each child, all classes, teachers, events and activities, as well as interesting quotes from the children. It is put together by the Parent Association.
